In 1987, Guns’n’Roses, led by the lithe and limber, controversial-but-not-just-for-wearing-bike-shorts-on-stage Axl Rose, established themselves as unchallenged rulers of complicated rock music. “Appetite for Destruction” has sold over 30 million copies worldwide, with the sequel “Use Your Illusion” selling an additional 35 million. Rose was famous back then for inciting riots and smashing liquor bottles at crowds during live events, in addition to having a powerful voice. However, due to personal disagreements, the project quickly disintegrated. The band remained on sabbatical for a long period before finally releasing the album “Chinese Democracy,” which did not sell as well as their label had intended.
