Even so, it was heartbreaking to hear Donald Shelton admit that he would have been utterly powerless without his parents. When he weighed 678 pounds, he was unable to walk at all. After gastric bypass surgery, he had lost 300 pounds, but he still had a long road ahead of him. He was rushed to the hospital after collapsing and slipped into a coma. He was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome by doctors! His weight fluctuated as a result, but he has since stayed focused on his goal and maintained a healthy weight.

When he first appeared on the show in season two, Chuck Turner weighed in at a whopping 700 pounds. Besides their son, his wife also took good care of him. A few years later, he confessed that it felt like she was his servant at times. He revealed that his weight gain resulted from the murder of his first wife. He received physical and emotional support, resulting in a weight loss of more than two-thirds! He’s down to about 260 pounds now. Nice.
