Nothing says “I am still in the 1960s” like a shag carpet. Shag carpet was a big mistake; it never looked good and felt strange underfoot. I hope future generations will enjoy this tradition as much as I do. Don’t even think about cleaning it. Instead of hiring a groomer, you should hire a groomer.
