His Reaction
Suddenly, the reporter’s expression shifted somewhat. He had ceased writing, but Thomas had not. For several minutes, the reporter merely stared at him in bewilderment, until Thomas seemed to ask him what was wrong. He appeared to be in a state of shock, but why? What had Thomas told him?

Leaving the room
The reporter then abruptly rose from his seat and exited the room without saying anything to Thomas. The family could hear Thomas calling the man and asking where he was going when he answered the door. But the reporter was no longer reacting to Thomas.
