Abandoned Railroads in America
The introduction of the railroad in 1827 changed transportation. As you can see, the majority of abandoned railways are in the country’s eastern half, which makes sense given that the country steadily extended westward in the 1800s. As aircraft and vehicles became more popular, trains became less popular, and more railways were abandoned.
