Humphrey Boggart, then 46, divorced his wife Mayo Methot after having an affair with his 19-year-old costar Lauren Bacall on the set of To Have and Have Not. It is arguably the most well-known instance of a celebrity leaving their spouse for a mistress in the history of the entertainment industry. Boggart was clearly head over heels in love with Bacall, because he married her six months after their divorce and they remained together for the next 12 years, until Boggart’s death.
