Real Estate Agents Were Shocked By What They Saw Inside This Old Lady’s House

A Regular Home

Do not judge a book by its cover, as the old saying goes. The ladies received a call from a 96-year-old woman in Toronto. It did not look any different from the other houses in the area from the outside, but it was actually very different inside…

Looking To Sell

Not a lot of people have gone inside this house. The only thing the neighbors knew about it was that it has been inhabited by the same people for what seemed like forever. One day, Gladys and Carla got a call about it.

The day was just a regular day for the sisters. Everyone in the office was busy as usual. You should know that Carla and Gladys did not always work together before. However, this all changed when they saw that they made a great team!

Surprising Event

Carla and Gladys have lots of experience in the field, so they knew the ins and outs of it. They thought that they already knew everything about the industry. Or so they thought. However, this case was going to surprise them very much.

The ladies had no idea that a simple phone call was going to start something so life-changing. When the phone rang, they did not know what to expect. Yes, even professional real estate agents still get shocked.

A Call From A Stranger

The phone rings all day at the office, so they just answered it like they normally did. However, something about it gave them pause. Who was on the other end of the line? It was an older woman called Joyce who wanted to sell her house.

A Different Kind Of Emotion

A lot of people think that selling their house is a step forward. They believe that it is the right thing to do. This is the reason they get in touch with real estate offices in the first place. Joyce was not like them.

Hiding Something

When talking to clients, many realtors have some kind of sixth sense. The sisters felt like the person on the other line had a secret. Could it be something so unpleasant that it would make the sale hard?

Challenge Accepted

No, Joyce was not hiding a typical house problem. She did not try to hide a broken water heater or mold. It was bigger than that and nothing like the sisters ever imagined. Still, they were ready to handle it.

The sisters were tasked to sell the house the elderly lady owned. The sisters knew that they could close a nice deal for the clients. However, nothing could have ever prepared them for the secret of the house.

The real estate agents were more worried as the day of inspection came closer. They were worried that it was going to take a lot of time and effort to clean the house. Hopefully, Joyce was not a hoarder.

With the meticulous design and exquisite details, it was clear that this place belonged to another era. Gladys said that the place looked like it came from The Brady Bunch. While it was an old house, Joyce took good care to keep it in shape. It is gorgeous, and she deserves full credit for it.

Joyce is a busy woman, but she makes sure to have time for things she is passionate about. When not working as a seamstress, she cultivates her interior design skills. Her designs are definitely impressive! They had been suffering from the terrible war economy back then, but she did not let this stop her.

A Brick House

A lot of interior designers from all over the country have paid the house a visit. Many noticed that she did not use bright colors and liked tone on tone. There were also lots of gold furnish, floral patterns, and metallic wallpaper. We are sure it must have looked different when she moved in there at 24 years old.

You would assume that it was some kind of tourist destination. The truth was that no one had any idea what it was hiding. When they put it up for sale, it went viral immediately. We are not surprised at all!

A Thorough Investigation

It is good to hear that the property was located in a great area. However, they had to be more thorough. The house was in good shape from the outside, but it was a different story altogether when they stepped inside. Still, they had to look for structural damage and faults since it was such an old place.

Slight Disadvantage

A fully furnished house is better since one can move in right away. However, this house came with a minor disadvantage. While the preserved pieces and interiors came from the ‘40s, the truth was that they were not going to be included in the price of the house. The new owner needs to replace them!

Things Worth Keeping

We can see why she wanted to keep the furniture. Her daughter was set to inherit the lovely pieces. We are sure she will look after it since she did grow up with it. Joyce likes this arrangement, we are sure. She just wanted to get the money for a retirement home, not completely let go of all her precious things.

The two-story house was where she channeled all her creative juices. She designed it to suit her liking. When she was not on the sewing chair, she made sure to keep the house in tiptop shape. She just used her creativity and resourcefulness to succeed in this. We daresay it was a huge success!

Color Obsession

In the past, bright colors like loud yellows, greens, and reds were common. Many believe that it was because they looked forward to a bright post-war future. However, Joyce liked to use soft pastel colors.

Unspoiled

She had lots of inspiration when she moved into this house. The house is pretty much a portal to the ‘50s since she did not change the décor, furniture, colors, and appliances there. Aside from that, she was able to keep the home tidy! Everything still looked brand new because of this.

Damage Inspection

The place is completely impressive, but you have to consider the structure too. It was possible that there was something wrong that the eye cannot see. They had to check if something in the foundation needed to be repaired. Of course, they hoped that there would not be much that had to be fixed.

Color Palette

During an interview, Joyce said that she like soft colors and matching things. She also said she liked tone on tone better than bright colors. This is why there are so many pastel aqua, purple, pink, and seafoam in the house. For her, it is important that the colors are easy to look at. The effect was very calming.

You will have no idea that it was 72 years old if you look at the state of the house. She managed to preserve the house down to the last detail. Her hard work truly did pay off. We hope that the owners would not want to change anything in the house! Her daughter said Joyce is fond of pink things.

Acquired Taste

While they liked the house and its current condition, they also knew that this was not going to appeal to anyone. Let us just say that the décor was an acquired taste. It was pretty feminine, so anyone who was not a fan of pastel colors might not like it. Hopefully, this would not be a problem when they put it on the market.
