Sally Struthers won over American hearts as Gloria Stivic, the daughter of Edith and Archie Bunker in Norman Lear’s groundbreaking sitcom All in the Family. She didn’t expect to get the character because it was originally offered to Candice Azarra, who played Gloria in the pilot episode. Candice was immediately discarded in order to make place for Sally. Gloria Struthers was known for her blonde pigtails and obstinate manner as she dealt with her domineering father. Sally’s life took a turn for the better after that, as she grew to become one of America’s most recognizable television personalities.

It’s impractical to expect the years to be kind to everyone, but Sally hasn’t let her age stop her from working. She has long been a supporter of the Christian Children’s Fund (now ChildFund), an organization that helps hungry and impoverished children in developing countries. In 2014, she also played Dolly in the 50th anniversary version of Hello, Dolly! Struthers was satirized twice on South Park in episodes featuring a starving youngster dubbed “Starvin’ Marvin,” The humor focuses on Struthers’ overconsumption in comparison to her efforts to help the hungry, hinting that she is hoarding food.
