Another vengeance epic, “Gladiator,” is the highest-grossing R-rated film to ever win the best picture at the Oscars. It earned five Oscars in total and helped launch Russel Crowe’s career as the wronged Roman gladiator Maximus. “Gladiator” was the highest-grossing R-rated film of 2000, grossing $460 million globally, making it the second-highest-grossing film of the year.
