Neon Light
Clifton’s Cafeteria is an old establishment in Los Angeles. Located in a historic building, the owner had been renovating the bathroom when he found a lit neon light! Experts believe that it had not been turned off in 77 years. If so, it holds the record for the longest one in the world! They think that it was first switched on in 1935 when the place was converted into a diner. However, the owner soon realized that it was the reason he paid about $17k in electricity. Neon lights often work for only up to 40 years.
Nazi Documents
This couple in Hungary saw top-secret Nazi documents hidden in the walls. They were renovating the home when they found more than 6,000 of Third Reich documents. They detailed things about the holocaust, including a Jewish census count and designated homes for them before they could be transferred to ghettos in Budapest. Scholars valued the finding since they were rare as the Nazis did their best to destroy them. The person in charge must have opted to hide them instead. The census dated back to 2 months before the occupation of Hungary. 600,000 Hungary Jews died in the holocaust.
