Buying rice from China seems like a no-brainer, just like rice noodles. After all, they’re served with almost every meal in China! Imported shrimp, like all Chinese seafood, should be crossed off your shopping list. A food lab at Texas Tech University’s Institute of Environmental and Human Health examined bags of shrimp from various supermarkets around the country a few years ago. When the study was finished, they discovered that all of the samples included chloramphenicol, the carcinogen nitrofurazone, and the antibiotic enrofloxacin. The chemicals have been discovered in the country’s illegal antibiotics! The shrimp are exposed to them due to the conditions in the Asian country. We’re already shivering just thinking about it. Pass with flying colors!
